Today, November 25, one year has passed from the moment that Ukraine stopped importing Russian gas, reports citing .

“This date is a landmark for Ukraine, because three years ago gas was a major symbol of political and economic dependence of our country from the neighboring country,” – said about this in the “Naftogaz of Ukraine”.

“Naftogaz” emphasizes that the country managed to achieve an important result: “Attempts of the Russian leadership to use gas as a means of political pressure on Ukraine have become useless”, – stated on the official website of “Naftogaz” in Facebook.
The company also said that a lot of work ahead on development of the Ukrainian gas market, full integration into the EU energy market, reform of Naftogaz and the establishment of an independent gas transmission operator, which will operate according to global rules.

As you know, after 25 November 2015 Ukraine used for their needs only the gas imported in reverse, and the blue fuel produced domestically. Last heating season was also completed without the use of Russian gas.
According to the operator of the Ukrainian GTS “Ukrtransgaz”, the reserves of natural gas in underground storage facilities in the country as of 23 November was 13,88 billion cubic meters. According to calculations of the Cabinet, for the entire heating season Ukraine needed 17 billion cubic meters of gas, but Naftogaz insisted that be enough, and 14 billion cubic meters.

At the same time, the Stockholm arbitration court has not yet ruled on mutual claims Naftogaz and Russian Gazprom. “Gazprom” and “Naftogaz of Ukraine” the legal proceedings in the Stockholm arbitration court in June 2014. The parties dispute regarding the contract for the supply of gas from 2009 and the contract for the transit of fuel.The decision of the Stockholm arbitration on the contract with “Naftogaz” on gas supply are expected in late 2016 – early 2017, according to transit dispute – at the end of January 2017.
